Blogging Assignment Sheet
Postcolonial Young Adult Literature
All blog posts will be listed on the main course site at http://pcyalit.wordpress.com/
1. Discussion Post: Each week there will be a lead post on our class blog which is designed to focus on key information from our weekly reading.
In this blog you are to spend time supporting, questioning, reflecting, connecting, and analyzing the reading. This is not the time to write a summary. This is the time to pose questions, challenge our thinking, connect to outside readings—even outside course, and to dig deep into the text.
The goal is for the blogs to enhance the classroom community, as well as to extend discussion beyond the walls of our class.
- Lead Posts
- You are responsible for posting one lead post this semester. We will sign up for these in class. Due to the number of students in class we will have 2-3 lead posts each week.
- Due at 11:59 pm on Sundays
- Minimum 500 words in each post. If you have blogs for other purposes and other classes, you may not use them here.
- Include video, audio, still images, etc. when relevant.
§ Response Posts
§ Due at 11:59 pm on Wednesdays
§ Minimum of 300 words and be more than a “great idea” or “I agree.”
The blog should be reflective of your personality – have fun naming your post, choosing key words, adding images, etc. At the same time, keep in mind that this is part of the development of your professional identity.
2. Course Recap
You are responsible for posting a quick recap about what was accomplished in class for the day. This should be a paragraph—maybe two—that captures the major themes discussed, any new assignments, lesson ideas, etc. Each of you is responsible for one course recap post this semester.
Grading:
The Blog Assignment is worth 10% of your final grade and will be based on the following criteria:
§ Completion of blog posts on time, in accordance with the minimum word count.
§ The quality of ideas and quality of writing in your blog posts.
§ The construction of a fully-realized blog with links, categories, etc.
§ The quality of your responses to your classmates.
