Multigenre Literacy Project
"A multigenre paper arises from research, experience, and imagination. It is not an uninterrupted, expository monologue nor a seamless narrative nor a collection of poems. A multigenre paper is composed of many genres and subgenres, each piece self-contained, making a point of its own, yet connected by theme or topic and sometimes by languge, images, and content. In addition to many genres, a multigenre paper may also contain many voices, not just the author's. The trick is to make such a paper hang together." --(Romano, Blending Genres, Altering Styles i-xi)
For this paper the research you do will be introspective. Think back to your literary practices as a middle and high school student. Stretch your mind, dust the cobwebs from your memories, and take the reader on a journey through your path of literacy through a blend of poetry, narrative and expository writing.
Planning Stage
1. The brainstorm: Make a detailed list of memories/events that stand out to you on your literary path. This does not need to be in chronologial order.
2. Consider which events stand out and make a second list of possible genres that lend themselves to your story.
3. The Plan of Writing (PoW): This 1-page document should detail your genre choice with a 3-4 sentnece rationale.
For example:
Genre 1: Visual-Wanted Poster-Rationale
Genre 2: Creative-Sonnet-Rationale
Genre 3: Expository-Field Notes-Rationale
Final Product Requirements
1. Dear Reader Letter: Introduce your topic, your repetend, your unifying element, and provide a road map (figuratively) for your reader to navigate through your project.
2. 10 genre minimum. Each area below must be represented:
a. poem
b. narrative
c. exposition

3. Repetend: A word or phrase that is intentionally repeated in every piecce to add an element of cohesion to the project.
